Is anyone tired of the apocalypse yet? It doesn’t seem so, based on the newest chart data from Reelgood, which finds Prime Video’s Fallout once again dominating the latest weekly ranking of TV shows from all the major streamers.
As I pointed out last week, end-of-the-world-themed dramas feel like they’re kind of having a moment right now. Two of the most recent to hit Netflix, for example, include the new Korean drama Goodbye Earth, which dramatizes humanity’s reaction to an imminent asteroid strike, as well as Netflix’s alien invasion series 3 Body Problem. Other recent examples include Apple TV+’s excellent Silo, plus Netflix’s Leave the World Behind from a few months ago.
Fallout, meanwhile, is Prime Video’s wildly successful adaptation of the popular video game franchise, depicting characters that emerge from fallout shelters after a nuclear winter and who go on to encounter bizarre, mutated characters and creatures aboveground.
This might actually be my favorite video game adaptation of all time, just squeezing past HBO’s The Last of Us thanks to the former’s more entertaining vibe. Moreover, Fallout is once again #1 this week in the US according to the latest data from the streaming search engine Reelgood, which tracks the most popular TV shows across all of the major streamers — from Netflix to Max, Apple TV+, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock and more.
Reelgood Streaming Charts monitor 20 million viewing decisions each month across every streaming platform in the US. For the 7-day period that ended on May 1, the 10 shows that topped Reelgood’s latest TV chart are as follows:
- Fallout (Prime Video)
- Baby Reindeer (Netflix)
- Under the Bridge (Hulu)
- Shogun (Hulu)
- Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix)
- Ripley (Netflix)
- Sugar (Apple TV+)
- The Veil (Hulu)
- Them (Prime Video)
- A Gentleman in Moscow (Paramount+)
As for what other TV shows are among the most-watched at the moment, two that I think are worth special mentions are Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and Prime Video’s Them.
Let’s start with the latter. Them is one of the best new series to hit Prime Video — and it debuted with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Subtitled Them: The Scare, the story here focuses on an LAPD homicide detective assigned to investigate the case of a murdered foster mother. It’s a case so gruesome that even hardened detectives have been left shaken. With a killer on the loose, the city teeters on the edge of chaos.
As for Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, it’s a disturbing drama based on real-life events involving a struggling British comedian and the woman who stalked and harassed him. Making this series — the #1 Netflix show in the world right now, by the way — so interesting is that the comedian this all happened to actually plays himself in the series.
Moreover, Baby Reindeer is continuing to blow up on the streaming giant and has seen its viewership explode over the past two weeks purely on word-of-mouth and social media buzz (with basically no marketing at all from Netflix).
