If you were intrigued by the rumor about Nintendo bringing magnetic Joy-Con controllers to the Switch 2, you’re going to want to see the extensive leak that followed. Over the weekend, third-party Switch accessory manufacturer Mobapad shared new details about the Switch 2, which it claims to have acquired while developing a controller for the new console.
Starting with the Joy-Cons, the report corroborates the leak from Vandal and provides far more specifics. According to Mobapad, the new Joy-Cons have larger volume buttons, metal SL and SR shoulder buttons, and a third button alongside L and ZL on the left controller and R and ZR on the right controller. Furthermore, the sliding rail of the original Joy-Con has been replaced with “electromagnetic suction technology” controlled by electric current.
There is also said to be an additional button beneath the HOME button.
The report also notes that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support existing Joy-Con controllers as well as the Pro Controller, and HD Rumble will continue to be available.
Most notably, the report suggests that the Switch 2’s cartridge slot will accept original Switch cartridges, so you can play all of your physical Switch games on a Switch 2 along with your digital game library. That said, Switch 2 carts won’t fit in original Switch consoles.
Other revelations from the report include details about the new dock, which will look similar to the old dock but will apparently support 4K visuals. Nintendo is also said to be upgrading the kickstand with a damping bracket for a greater range of adjustable angles.
Finally, the report claims that the Switch 2 will have an 8-inch display with a 1080p resolution. That’s even bigger than the Steam Deck’s screen, and it’s worth noting that Vandal’s report said the display would be larger than its predecessor’s but smaller than a Steam Deck’s.
We’re going to take all of this with a grain of salt for now, but the Switch 2 rumor mill is certainly heating up in recent days. If previous leaks are accurate, we might be just a month or so away from Nintendo’s official reveal of the Switch 2 ahead of its 2025 launch.
